Is It Better To Give Than Receive?

Last week I found myself in a bit of a rut. I was feeling sorry for myself for silly reasons. So what did I do?

I decided to do something nice for somebody else…and guess what? I instantly felt better.

It’s amazing how our mind set can change when we take the focus off of ourselves and focus on giving to others.

In reality, I have very giving family and friends. I have more than I need. How can I take the good that has been bestowed upon me and pour it out onto others? How can I take my time, my money, my wisdom and be of help or encouragement to someone else?

I believe the world would be a much better place if we focused more on giving. And in giving we receive something in return – a sense of fulfillment. Giving creates joy. Giving makes a difference.

So without further ado here is a quick list of ways we can give to others:

-offer a smile and warm greeting to those you encounter (cheesy, but it really can make a difference in someone’s day)

-volunteer in your community (in a shelter, at the pound, a senior living facility, the hospital, to coach a kid’s sport, etc)

-offer to babysit for that couple you know needs a date night or the mom that never gets time for herself

-bring someone flowers or their favorite coffee just because (little gifts like this are an easy way to let someone know you are thinking of them)

-pay for someone’s meal

-donate to your favorite charity or cause (I understand not everyone is in a position to give money)

-teach someone a skill you have (knitting, play an instrument, fishing, etc)

-offer your time

There are a great many things we could add to this list. It all comes down to offering your time and yourself. I would encourage you this week to be thinking of ways you can help others. I will be doing my best to continue with the mindset of everyone I encounter…How can I help this person in anyway? How can I encourage them? How can I give?

Please share and add to this list. What are ways we can give to others?

    1. I love you too! Thanks for reading and commenting. And I wanted to say thank you for the sweet words/quote from you in my ‘30 birthday book’. It made me feel very loved ❤️

  1. I 110% agree with all of this. An example from my life: One of my coworkers hands out hand written thank you notes. She’s given me a one just for listening and sitting with her (and sharing my Oreos) and I absolutely loved it. She took the time to make it personal and in doing so has inspired me to start doing this for others. The dollar store has packs of cards too, so it’s not something expensive. 🥰🥰🥰
